Critical Materials at UTEN Portugal Workshop

Last March, at Instituto Superior Técnico, the UTEN Portugal Workshop was held. This event was sponsored by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia and the topic of this meeting was Experiencing Technology Transfer & Commercialization: Fostering a New Dialogue with MIT.

Gustavo Dias, Critical Materials' CEO, presented the case of Critical Materials and its relation with University of Minho in terms of valuing faculty know-how through high tech start-ups. This workshop aim to promote globally competitive and sustainable scientific and technological know-how commercialization. The audience was mainly composed by experienced individuals based in technology offices linked to institutions of science or higher education.

Critical Materials provides technology and efficient products for monitoring and diagnosis of critical applications of intelligent materials for the Aerospace and Defence industries. The company is an example of an idea that comes out of the entrepreneurial vision of two PhDs from the University of Minho and is backed by Critical Software, a player already on the safety critical systems market.
